dare to be brave

I want to be like this spherical bear in many ways.
I want to be a musician.
I want to be an artist validated by works at a museum.
I want to be a writer.
I want to be a world traveler for the rest of my life.
I want to be a film maker.
There's so much I want to become and everyday, I'm living a struggle in the becoming.
I want to live life to the fullest and in order to do so,
I want to be brave and unafraid to follow and accomplish my dreams.

LIVE LIFE NO. 21 GET LOST!

The story of this film came to my mind while I was sick with a terrible cold. The characters are real and alive, they are everyday people I know, love and have loved. Working on this project was a lot of work, more than I expected. But I learned and loved the process of creating. I haven't been serious about film making since four years ago. And holding a camera, directing actors and post production in editing and sound felt like revisiting my inner passionate film making self that never left me. I am grateful for all the actors who participated and for all the support I've received while making and debuting my film. I have always been insecure about my art, but I can say this film has turned into a work I am proud of. This film has also brought back the spark of silver screen life to me. It's what I needed to continue creating, aspiring to and doing what I love. So, I'm sharing this work with you and I hope you'll enjoy. Thanks for watching and listening.

For all you artists out there, read THIS! These words are my muse and inspiration for living today and everyday.

take two and action

My film kills me. It's so bad that it's become terribly funny. I really am laughing. Really.

learning to love and be creative again

This weekend has been a million self-discoveries. After being productively creative (creating a game + editing film), being with people who know me best and a new friend, I feel like my true artistic self again. I have never felt so honest with myself. I am happy to say I am who I am. I want to spend a lifetime of creating, for the love of creating all things anew. Really. And this line from 'Learning to Love Again' and 'Brackett, W9' echoes all that pours out from my soul.

be an explorer

This day has been full of adventures and exploration. I learned about audio recording and almost accidentally tried to play on a signed Colbie Caillat ukulele (read here). I also went to the UMFA for The Smithson Effect. The theme and intended message of the exhibit involves the design of nature and man in the Second Law of Thermodynamics and entropy (I can never remember those laws). This made a little more sense after I read the explanations in a book. Then later in the day, I looked to the sky and I couldn't be more grateful. For what I saw was heavenly blue painted with clouds, a view that should never be taken for granted.

This was a quick one minute edit on Photoshop.
Cherrio my lovely Marks & Spencer + Mumford & Sons. I fancy both of you a lot.

typography

Nothing is happenstance. Or so that's what I believe and I have nothing left to lose. After tonight, I was inspired to design this ad, in the hopes of attracting more students. I have little experience with posters and typography so I was quite pleased with the end result.

searching for heritage

My friend sent me this poster she edited and designed. I'm always looking for inspiration and this time, inspiration has found me.
Check out more of her work here.

head or your heart

The words came out of me. Circulatory system. This was my first train of thought. This was my response to thinking of a metaphoric image conveying the qualities of a runner. I thought of how the circulatory system needs to keep running in a cycle. A runner must keep on moving in order to finish a race and the circulatory system lives within a runner. Silence. In a room full of art, computer science and game design majors, I was outnumbered. Once I said those words out loud, I came to a realization that I have become everything I study and do. It's as if science breathes right through me, along with the atoms, water molecules and life I am made of. I asked myself. Who am I? Sometimes I can't believe the words that seem to spill out of me. Only a scientist would have thought of such response. Yet here I am, allowing myself to become a part of the world I observe and live in. While I'm attempting to think more like a biologist, I'm also still dwelling on whether this really is the path I want to take. I have my fears, but I also have this certain reassurance that wherever I may go, I will find myself in this world. Analogous to the circulatory system, there are many pathways. The road less traveled on becomes less of a question and more of a risk worth taking.

real art

Three hours of art modeling, restless stillness in a qipao and six artists painting me. I've now lived the definition of art is subjective. There were several other interpretations of me; this painting looks sur(real) and strikingly resembles me in a photograph.

there's a first time for everything

It's been a year since I've literally been 'Undecided' about my major. I don't really know how this came about, but as of today, I'm now a biology major. It's still daunting and nerve-racking. I've been wanting to do something with both
art and science and recently, I found out about medical illustration. So now I'm going for it.

From the Posties

Arrived from the mail:
Lanikai LU-21 series ukulele
a letter from Sister E.
a red pocket sized Moleskine.

Happiness arrived on my doorstep, literally.
I've been non-stop jamming on my uke.
The first song I learned: "You and I" by Ingrid Michaelson.
Now playing: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" by IZ.
My day couldn't get any better as I listen to the strumming of happy songs.
When I went to the Anthropologie in Seattle, I discovered 1000 Artist Journal Pages, which have been an inspiration to my paintings as of lately. I'm more of a random doodler and experiencing with paints have been lots of fun.
I have yet to reply to Sister E, but reading her letters and blog about Indonesia always makes my day.
List making and music are some of my favourite things. Music Listography is one of the best out of the listography series. I can't wait to fill out the entire book.
And of course, my Moleskine has allowed sparks of creativity to occur.
I love receiving mail and packages from the posties. What would I ever do without them? They've brought me closer to love. Love for music, keeping in touch with a loved one, love for books and love for creating.

Happy Finds

While sorting out papers from previous years in school, I stumbled across these little artworks I made. All of this was forgotten before I looked through my art folder. I'm happy I keep these as a reminder of things I've done and learned in school. They remind me of growing up and how I never really want to grow up. And I never stopped having enthusiasm for colours.
